During the summer, shepherds and farmers in the Friulian mountains make cheese from their own herd's milk in what is called, in Italian, a “malga”, a mountain cottage or refuge. And Enemonzo (Udine) is devoting a whole Exhibit & Market to cheeses and ricottas made in the malgas of Carnia: the 49th Mostra Mercato del Formaggio e della Ricotta di malga started last week and will close next weekend, on September 16 and 17. The yearly contest will award the best cheese, and visitors will have the chance not only to tour the town in a carriage, but also to taste local cheese, food and wines in the booths scattered in the city centre. Plus live music and side events like art exhibitions will be there to enjoy for everyone. Click here for the full program.
