This year's theme is “Eredi” (Heirs): famed Italian and international artists will perform on stage as well as new talents. “This thirtieth anniversary of the festival coincides with one of the most difficult moments in recent human history. The global challenge of the pandemic has united and raised new walls and borders between countries. Then it became all the more important on this anniversary, which falls "in the middle of the journey of our life", as Dante would say, whose 700th anniversary of death is celebrated this year, to confirm the original vocation of the festival, as it was born in 1991 after the fall of the Berlin Wall. That is to make culture a bridge to unite, to give everyone new strength, passion and foresight " said Mittelfest president Roberto Corciulo.
Mittelfest 2021 will feature 31 artistic projects: 17 for music, 6 for theatre, 5 for dance, plus 3 shows selected for Mittelyoung, thus including an overall 18 never-before-seen shows, 8 productions and coproductions, involving 13 countries of the Middle-European area. Mittelyoung had already hosted, in June, 9 shows that won an international competition: 3 dance shows, three musical shows and three theatre ones, representing six different nationalities.
