«With The Unexpected – Pedini explains – Mittelfest will tell the story of the relationship between what makes us safe and what surprises us, it will narrate what happens around the unexpected, the unknown that we discover every day. Unexpected events happen all the time, but one in particular has been the protagonist of our lives in the last two years: the pandemic has undermined a series of certainties, or presumed certainties, and has changed habits and social rules on a global level, revealing many of our frailties».
The closing act of Mittelfest 2022, on July 31, will be the concert of Italian pop sensation La Rappresentante di Lista (pictured here on the left) together with “Arcangelo Corelli” Orchestra.

The festival is already looking to GO2025: in 2025 Gorizia and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) will be joint European Capital of Culture. So Mittelfest decided to further strengthen its international vocation by actively collaborating with Slovenia and Austria for its 2022 edition. «It is a territorial bond that is firmly rooted in Friuli Venezia Giulia, but is increasingly capable of crossing regional borders – said Mittelfest President, Roberto Corciulo, and speaking about GO2025 he added – It's a major event that does not only concern the two cities, but holds great regional and national development opportunities for both countries».
A special collaboration with the Carinthischer Sommer Festival (and its Managing and Artistic Director, Holger Bleck), one of the main events of the Austrian music scene between Villach and Ossiach, also helped tighten bounds with Friuli Venezia Giulia's other neighbour. The young talents' section of the Austrian festival will host one of Mittelyoung music artists, the Chez Fría Ensemble and, in return, it'll bring to Cividale del Friuli one of its new proposals, the trio Nyala (from Holland). This is a further step towards the idea of an “Alpe Adria Under 30”, a project that enhances the value of new artists by allowing them to interact with audiences from different countries.
Plus, thanks to the five-year collaboration agreement valid until the end of 2026, in 2022 the regional symphony orchestra FVG Orchestra and Mittelfest will once again give life to an unprecedented European co-production.
Three shows won the Mittelyoung contest for under30 artists last May and will be performed during the festival. They are “Assenza sparsa” by Pan Domu Teatro (Italy) for theatre, “Vacation from love” by Cuma Kollektiv (Germany) for music and “Nymphs” with coreographer Niek Wagenaar (Holland) for dance. The winners were chosen among 148 submissions from 20 countries all over the world.
